Our Pastor in Family

Robert J Yarbrough is the son of the late Robert Yarbrough of Atlantic City, New Jersey and the late Johnsie Yarbrough of Matthews, North Carolina.

 

He is married to his college sweetheart, the previous Rochelle Marie Banks and will celebrate 29 years of marital bliss on November 26, 2023.

 

To this union there are three children; Maya Lynn (25), a senior Biology and Spanish major at UNC Charlotte, Robert Jr. (22), rising Senior Chemical Engineering student at NC A&T and Lauren Nicole (20), a rising Junior Computer Science student at UNC Charlotte.

 

Robert and his family currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Robert loves spending time with his family especially involving water events. He loves cooking, grilling and is a self-proclaimed foodie.

Our Brother in Vocation

Pastor Robert J Yarbrough is serving his eighth year as the Senior Pastor of Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

 

Pastor Yarbrough has lead the congregation is receiving over $50K in grants to mak note an indelible impact in the Greater Rocky Mount Community including but not limited to sharing over 6000 meals served during the Pandemic, numerous Mental Health & Wellness initiatives and sharing of the facility community events and inspirational programming.

 

He will celebrate his 30th year in ministry August 2023. He was Pastor of Sims Chapel in Stamford, Texas where he led the building of a new edifice and was selected as Pastor of the Year for the Greater Abilene area. Yarbrough was also Pastor at Historic Greater St. Paul, the oldest African American Church in San Angelo, Texas. Under his leadership, the church relieved the church of $60K in debt and doubled in membership to 150 in three years. Minister Yarbrough relocated from Texas to Raleigh, NC in 2006.

 

He and his family united with St. Matthew AME Church where he served as Youth Minister and liaison to the Men’s Ministry. Rev. Yarbrough pastored five years at St. Mark AME Church in Smithfield and two years at Union Hill AME Church in Wilson’s Mills.

Our Brother in Occupation

Robert matriculated at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ where he earned a dual degree in Industrial Engineering and Finance.

 

Robert is a experienced and trained in Innovation and Community Improvement workshop Facilitation. His current occupation is the Manager of Continuous Improvement at Pfizer in Sanford, NC. He previously was the Director of Production and Continuous Improvement at Stay Online LLC in Creedmoor, NC. Prior to that, he was a Production & Distribution Manager at Tyco Electronics (TE) Connectivity Energy Division in Fuquay-Varina, NC. Prior to TE Connectivity,

 

Robert was a Production Manager at Armacell, LLC an Engineering Foam Insulation Company in Mebane, NC, a Plant Manager for Cintas, a Uniform Company in the Research Triangle Park and the spent the bulk of his career (16 years) with ETHICON, Inc., a Johnson and Johnson Company in various Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Sales positions. He has been selected as “Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals.”

Our Brother in Service

Brother Yarbrough is a current member of the Eastern NC Ministerial Alliance, and past President of the San Angelo Texas Ministerial Alliance. He is a current member of the Down East Partnership for Children Strategic Planning & Data Advisory Board, former Board Member of the Harriet B. Webster Task Force for Student Success and Founder of the H.O.B.B. or Hug Our Black Boys network, an on-line ministry of over 2000 members.

 

Pastor Yarbrough is the Cluster Leader of seven AME Churches in Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson counties focused on collaborative efforts to maximize political action and community impact. This was demonstrated in the mobilization of Churches in the Rocky Mount Area distributing over 1,200 boxes of fresh produce weekly at the height of the pandemic.

 

St Mark, during this same time, distributed 1,000 free hot and frozen lunches weekly along with free COVID personal protective equipment and voter registration applications.

Our Pastor in Alpha

Brother Robert Yarbrough pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Delta Iota Chapter at Rutgers University of New Brunswick, NJ in Spring 1988. He served as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Chapter. Delta Iota hosted the largest Pan Hellenic Step Show on the East Coast. In 1989, the Chapter hosted the Annual Step Show at the Louis Brown Athletic Center with over 5,000 in attendance enabling the Chapter to give over $15K in charitable contributions. In 1990, Brother Yarbrough was the Alpha Phi Alpha Belford V Lawson National Oratorical Contest Winner. Brother Yarbrough has served as the Commencement Speaker for Rutgers College of Engineering. He also had the honor of being the Keynote Speaker at the National Convention for the National Society of Black Engineers, the largest world-wide student run organization. Brother Yarbrough is currently a member of the Epsilon Sigma Lambda Chapter of Rocky Mount, NC where he serves as the Chairperson of Voteless People is a Hopeless People and Chair of Cannon-Dozier Project. The Cannon-Dozier Project goal is to provide awareness and educate on alcohol consumption and drunk driving. Brother Yarbrough is humbled by the opportunity to have been 2020 Epsilon Sigma Lambdas Keynote Speaker for our Virtual Founders’ Day Program and Jewel Ceremony.
